Lamp Lighting Ceremony
The Lamp Lighting Ceremony is one of the most sacred traditions in nursing education. Held annually at IQ City Institute of Nursing Sciences, Durgapur, this ceremony formally welcomes B.Sc. Nursing students into the nursing profession — a moment cherished by every student, faculty member, and family.
As one of the leading private nursing colleges in West Bengal, IQ City Institute of Nursing Sciences observes this ceremony every year on 12th May — the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale, the "Lady with the Lamp" and founder of modern nursing, also celebrated worldwide as International Nurses Day.
During the ceremony, each student receives a lit lamp symbolising the transfer of knowledge, compassion, and professional responsibility. Students then take the solemn Professional Nursing Oath, pledging to serve patients physically, mentally, and ethically — marking the moment they truly begin their journey as nurses.
The 4th Batch (12th May 2019), 3rd Batch (12th May 2018), and 2nd Batch (12th May 2017) each celebrated their Lamp Lighting Ceremony at Srijani Hall, Durgapur — with students taking their oath before faculty, dignitaries, and proud families, continuing a tradition that grows richer with every passing year.
Among the top B.Sc. Nursing colleges in India, IQ City Institute of Nursing Sciences stands out for its experienced faculty, hospital-integrated clinical training, and strong emphasis on values-based nursing education. Affiliated with the West Bengal Nurses' Council (WBNC) and approved by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), the institution prepares graduates who are clinically skilled and compassionately driven.
