The department of Medical Surgical Nursing provides courses related to adult health nursing including geriatrics as well as advanced nursing practice for undergraduate, postgraduate and GNM students.

The department helps the students to develop in-depth knowledge, skills needed to function in the health care setting in providing preventive, promotive and rehabilitative care. The clinical services of the department include clinical supervision of students, patient care, in-service education, conduction of awareness programme, health screening, clinical administration and research activities.

Objectives

  • Teach the students to apply the concepts of health promotion, prevention and cure of diseases, rehabilitation and home care services.
  • Train the students to perform comprehensive nursing care skilfully and appreciate the client as a holistic individual.
  • Appreciate the role of alternative system of medicine in care of the patients.
  • Describe various recent technologies and treatment modalities in the management of critically ill patients.
  • Incorporate evidence based Nursing practise and identify the areas of research in the field of Medical-surgical Nursing and motivate the students to practice evidence based nursing.
  • Recognize the role of Nurse practitioner as a member of the medical surgical health team.
  • Build a positive attitude, confidence, assertiveness, leadership quality to enhance professional excellence
